Invited Review: Ketosis Diagnosis and Monitoring in High-Producing Dairy Cows

چکیده
This work reviews the current impact and manifestation of ketosis (hyperketonemia) in dairy cattle, emphasizing practical use laboratory methods, field tests, milk data to monitoring this disease. Ketosis is a major issue high-producing cows, easily reaching prevalence 20% during early postpartum when negative energy balance well established. Its economic losses, mainly related decreasing yield, fertility, treatment costs, have been estimated up €250 per case ketosis/year, which can double if associated diseases are considered. A deep relationship between subclinical or clinical production be observed first two months postpartum. Fourier transform infrared spectrometry methods gradually take place routine evaluates body ketones (e.g., beta-hydroxybutyrate) probably will accurately substitute cowside blood tests at farm avenir. Fat protein ratio urea largely evaluated each month farms indicating animals risk hyperketonemia. At preventive levels, other than periodical evaluation condition score controlling modifiable identifying non-modifiable factors, ruminatory activity assessment peripartum seems valuable tool farms. We conclude that technological advance progressively takes mitigate effects these metabolic diseases, challenge high-yielding cows.

Furosemide Induced Electrocardiographic Alterations in High Producing Holstein Dairy Cows
Diuretics have several therapeutic advantages in dairy cows but there are different side effects such as acid-base and electrolyte imbalances which may affect the electrocardiographic parameters. Fifteen multiparous, clinically healthy, non-pregnant and high producing 4-year-old Holstein dairy cows at their early lactation period were randomly divided into 3 equal experimental groups. Furosemid...

متن کاملReproductive Challenges of High Producing Dairy Cows
Within a dairy herd, total milk production is determined by the proportion of cows producing milk at any given time and the level of milk production of the individual cows within the herd. Improving reproductive efficiency helps to maintain the maximal number of cows producing milk at optimal levels. Reproductive efficiency in dairy cattle currently is suboptimal primarily due to four factors: ...
متن کاملInvited review: New perspectives on the roles of nutrition and metabolic priorities in the subfertility of high-producing dairy cows.
Management, nutrition, production, and genetics are the main reasons for the decline in fertility in the modern dairy cow. Selection for the single trait of milk production with little consideration for traits associated with reproduction in the modern dairy cow has produced an antagonistic relationship between milk yield and reproductive performance. The outcome is a multi-factorial syndrome o...
متن کاملCirculating metabolic hormones in different metabolic states of high producing Holstein dairy cows
Background: Information regarding the metabolic hormones in different metabolic states of high producing dairy cows can aid high producing herds to manage and resolve the metabolic and production problems. Furthermore, it can be considered as a tool to evaluate metabolic status of dairy cows. Herd managers can also evaluate the energy input-output relationships by assessing the metabolic profil...
